The legend of Pulcinella and the tomato

The story goes that Pulcinella, the famous Neapolitan puppet, was walking through the market one day when he saw a farmer selling tomatoes, a fruit at the time still unknown in Naples. Intrigued by their bright colour, Pulcinella bought some and took them home, where his beloved wife, Lorenza, decided to cook them with spaghetti.
The result was such a success that the scent of the dish attracted the attention of King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who, intrigued, wanted to taste it. The King was so enraptured by the taste of spaghetti al pomodoro that he decided to appoint Pulcinella 'royal cook' and to spread the recipe throughout the kingdom.
